The art of restoring a window consist of 10 steps as shown below.

Step 1

You must take a rubbing of the window before you begin to dismantel.   Then number and note type and color of glass on your rubbing.  Number each piece of glass to match that of rubbing.

Next, carefully dismantel the window by removing each piece individually.  Dispose of lead properly.

Step 3

Clean each piece of glass and lay out in orginal design.  Cut and replace any pieces as needed.

Step 4

Review pieces for accuracy.  Make sure pieces have not been reversed, etc.

Relead window.

Step 6

Solder frontside then carefully flip and solder the backside.

Step 7

Next weatherize the window with mud, working it between the lead and each piece of glass.

Step 8

Whiting is applied and brushed throughly over each piece of glass and lead.  This will help set the mud and clean the glass at the same time.  The final step is to outline each lead line with a tool that looks like a pencil to pick out any access mud and whiting.  Let the window set overnight

Wash window throughly.

Window complete and ready for new frame.
